Oakland rolls out speed cameras at 18 locations across city; 60-day warning period underway

OMG u guys!!! 🤯 I'm literally shaking with rage and frustration thinking about those poor souls who are going to get fined for speeding in Oakland 🚗💨. It's not just about the money, it's about lives lost because of reckless driving 💔. Mayor Barbara Lee is right on point when she says traffic safety is public safety 🙌.

I mean what even is the deal with the warning period?! 🤷‍♀️ 60 days is basically a lifetime in today's world where we're all glued to our screens 📱. I hope people aren't going to be stuck with that ticket for months on end, just waiting for it to expire 💸.

And can we talk about how convenient this system is?! 🤯 No surveillance means no creepy Big Brother vibes 👀. Plus, the reduced fines for low-income residents are a major win in my book 🙌. I'm all about making sure that everyone has access to resources, not just those who are already struggling.

I wish Josh Rowan was on TV talking about this because he sounds like a total hero 🙏. "Speeding is a choice"?! Girl, tell it to me again 🤣! It's not that easy, you know what I mean? We need to make driving safer for everyone, not just the ones who can afford to get tickets 💸.

I think this automated speed safety camera program in Oakland is like, super necessary 🚨💨. I mean, traffic violence has been on the rise and it's heartbreaking to hear about families losing loved ones due to speeding. The idea that drivers will receive only warnings during the 60-day warning period is a good start, but we need to make sure these cameras are implemented in a way that doesn't disproportionately affect low-income residents 🤔.

I'm also curious to see how the data collected from the cameras will be used and shared – it's great to hear that it'll be confidential, but what about transparency? We should know more about the effectiveness of this program and whether it's really saving lives 💡. One thing I do like is that low-income residents won't face harsher fines 🙏.

It's also interesting to see how Mayor Barbara Lee frames traffic safety as a top priority – I think we can all agree on that 😊. But what about the role of law enforcement? Should they be involved in issuing citations or will it solely be the DOT? I'm not sure, but I trust Oakland is doing its due diligence 🙏
