Coyote Sighting Sparks Concern in Miami Springs Neighborhood
Resident Yolanda Sauer was left shaken after spotting a coyote lurking behind her home, sending her and her family into high alert. According to Sauer, she witnessed several police officers gathering near her house when she heard about the sighting, and they confirmed that a very aggressive coyote had been spotted in her backyard.
The chaos unfolded at around 10 am on Friday morning, just as Sauer would normally take out her teacup chihuahua for its morning walk. However, it was not her dog that posed a threat but rather the coyote's encounter with their pet tortoise, Bubble. Surveillance footage shows the coyote approaching and staring down the tortoise before turning around and leaving.
The Sauer family is now concerned about their pets' safety, particularly their African sulcata tortoises, which they keep in their backyard. "We have to keep our pets indoors as much as possible," said Charles, Yolanda's son and neighbor. His statement echoed the recommendation from the Miami Springs Police Department, which advised residents to keep a safe distance from coyotes by making loud noises when encountering them.
In light of this incident, residents in the area are now on high alert, with many expressing concern about their children's safety while playing outdoors afternoons. "I don't want to see it hurt but I don't want to see a child hurt either," said Yolanda Sauer.
Fortunately, the coyote has since been captured by the Miami Springs Police Department, and residents are assured that there is no longer any danger in the area. However, for many like the Sauers, the experience left a lasting impression, highlighting the importance of being vigilant about wildlife safety.
