Sleep Awake review – Gary Numan cameos in an overly straightforward sleep-deprivation horror

Gary Numan Makes a Baffling Cameo in Sleep Awake, a Lackluster Horror Game

Sleep Awake is an unimpressive psychological horror game that fails to deliver any truly memorable moments, despite its visually stunning setting and striking concept. The game follows Katja, a young woman navigating the desolate streets of what appears to be the last city on Earth, struggling with the consequences of sleep deprivation in a world ravaged by a mysterious disease known as the Hush.

While the setting itself is a masterclass in atmospheric design, evoking the works of Italian artist Piranesi and drawing inspiration from the eerie landscapes of Gary Numan's synth-rock soundscapes, the gameplay is woefully underwhelming. Players are subjected to rote patrol paths for enemies, generous field of vision, and uninspired puzzles that involve rolling carts into breakers or finding hidden keycards.

The game's visuals, however, are a different story altogether. Interwoven with FMV sequences showcasing psychedelic visions and hallucinatory landscapes, the surrealism is both captivating and unsettling. Even the death screen – a rare moment of interactive storytelling in an otherwise straightforward narrative – manages to evoke a sense of dreamlike confusion.

But what truly holds Sleep Awake back from becoming something more is its inability to engage with its themes and ideas beyond the surface level. The lack of tension, the predictable gameplay mechanics, and the unchallenging puzzles all contribute to a game that feels too easy, too straightforward, and not nearly sinister enough to warrant the eerie atmosphere it so desperately tries to create.

In short, Sleep Awake is a visually stunning but narratively underwhelming horror game that fails to deliver on its promise of an immersive, unsettling experience. Even Gary Numan's cameos can't elevate this lackluster effort into something truly memorable – you may want to sleep on this one if you're looking for a compelling horror experience.

Ugh 🤕 just played Sleep Awake and I'm so disappointed 😔 it looks like they took all the creepy stuff from Gary Numan's music vids but forgot how to make a scary game 🎮 I mean, what's up with the gameplay? It's like patrolling around in circles forever ⏰ and don't even get me started on the puzzles, soooo easy 😂 and yeah, I was expecting way more tension from the atmosphere they created... it just felt like a tease 🤷‍♀️

I'm so meh about Sleep Awake 🤕. I mean, the visuals are straight fire 🔥 but the gameplay is just...meh. It's like they took all the creepy vibes from Gary Numan's music and didn't even integrate it into the actual game properly 🎸. And don't even get me started on the puzzles - rolling carts into breakers? 😴 it's like they thought we'd be too bored to try anything more challenging.

I think what really gets my goat is that the game tries to go for this deep, atmospheric horror experience but ends up being super predictable 🌫️. I mean, if you're gonna have a creepy setting and then just give us rote patrol paths and generic puzzles, it's not exactly terrifying 😅. And where's the tension? The suspense? It feels like they were too scared to make anything actually hard or unsettling.

I dunno, maybe I'm just being too harsh 🤔. But if you're looking for a good horror game, I'd say keep sleeping on this one 👍. There are plenty of other great games out there that can deliver the scares and chills without feeling like you've seen it all before 😴💀

I mean, come on... Gary Numan making a cameo in this game? That's just a marketing gimmick, innit? I love the synth-rock vibes he brought to this game, but it's not like his presence is gonna make up for the lackluster gameplay 🙄. And don't even get me started on the puzzles – rolling carts into breakers? More like rolling my eyes at how boring that is 😴. Visually stunning or not, I'm just not feeling this one... might be better off sleeping on it, haha 💤

Interesting 🤔... like what they did with the visuals is straight fire 🔥, but it feels like a waste when the gameplay's just so meh 🤷‍♂️. And Gary Numan showing up is kinda cool 😎, but I guess even his awesomeness can't save this game from being kinda boring 😴

I just played Sleep Awake and I gotta say... what was up with that? 🤔 The visuals were straight fire, like a work of art or something 🎨. It felt like I was walking through a surreal world where nothing made sense 😂. But the gameplay... ugh. It was so boring! I mean, I've played better horror games on lower settings 👻. And don't even get me started on the puzzles – rolling carts into breakers? 🤷‍♂️ It felt like they just phoned it in. Gary Numan's cameos were a nice touch, but not enough to save this game from being a total snooze-fest 😴. Overall, I'd say Sleep Awake is a hot mess of an experience – skip it if you're looking for something scary 🚫

Omg I just played Sleep Awake 🤯 and I'm so underwhelmed 🤕 it looks like they got the whole atmosphere thing down pat, but the gameplay is just so... meh 😐 I mean, I love Gary Numan's music, but even he can't save this game from being a total snooze fest 😴. The puzzles are super easy and the enemies are just standing there waiting to get killed 🤦‍♀️. And don't even get me started on the story, it's like they barely scratched the surface of what could be a really interesting concept. 🤔

so i just played this horror game sleep awake and i gotta say its got some nice vibes goin on 🌃️ the setting is super creepy and gary numan's music is all over it but its gameplay is super meh idk man 😐 its like they took every scary movie cliche and mashed them all together then said "oh yeah lets just make this into a game" 🤦‍♂️

anyway i did notice that the visuals are pretty stunning especially during the fmv sequences theyre like something out of a dream 🌙 but overall its just too easy 😴 you can beat the whole game without even really trying 👀

i dont think gary numan's cameo is bad or anything its just not enough to save this game from itself 🤷‍♂️ maybe if theyd spent more time developing the actual gameplay instead of just throwing in some cool visuals idk

omg i was really hyped for this game but now im kinda disappointed 🤕 the setting is straight fire tho, it's like they took all these eerie italian landscapes and merged them with gary numan's sick synth soundscapes... but yeah, the gameplay just feels so underwhelming, like you're just mashing buttons to kill enemies or rolling carts into breakers lol idk man, i was expecting way more tension and suspense. 🤔 also, why did they include gary numan if he's not even doing any vocals? it felt like a weird Easter egg at first but now its just kinda confusing 😒

omg u guys I just played Sleep Awake and it was like...what r they even tryin 2 do here? Visually stunning setting but gameplay is SO underwhelming its like patrolling around 4 hours straight lol even gary numan's cameo couldn't save this game from bein a total snooze fest 🤯😴 i mean i liked the atmospere and stuff but it felt so predictable and easy u could basically just walk through most of the game without even breakin a sweat 🙄 the puzzles were meh too, just like rolling carts into breakers um wut's the point lol

the latest gaming releases are getting so predictable 🤦‍♂️... i mean, what happened to innovation? it's just the same old formula: pretty visuals, generic storyline, and gameplay that puts me to sleep 😴. and don't even get me started on the lack of challenge... if i can beat the game in like an hour, is it really worth the hype? 🤔

🤔 I'm so underwhelmed by Sleep Awake - the setting is straight out of a dream, but the gameplay is just too meh 🙄. Those FMV sequences are insane, though! 👀 It's like they took every eerie Gary Numan song and turned it into an actual horror game environment. But honestly, the whole thing feels so predictable 😴. I mean, who comes up with a game where you just roll carts around? 🤦‍♀️ At least the death screen was kinda cool, but that's about it for me. Overall, I'd say it's a solid "sleep on this one" kind of deal 😴👍

idk what's the point of even having gary numan in a game that's literally just sleep deprivation 🤷‍♂️ anyone else think it was a waste of his iconic synth-rock vibes? i mean, the game itself is like watching paint dry 😴 but at least the setting is pretty cool, kinda like an industrial-futuristic fever dream. can't we just have a good ol' fashioned jump scare instead of all this slow-burning tension? 🎃

🤔 Gary Numan's cameo in Sleep Awake is like, really weird lol... I mean, the guy's synth-rock vibes are straight fire but like what's up with his appearance in the game? 🎸♂️ It doesn't really feel like it adds to the gameplay or story. Maybe they were just trying to throw in a cool Easter egg for fans or something? 🤷‍♂️ Anyway, I'm still waiting for that immersive horror experience... this one's just not doing it for me 😴

I'm so bummed about Sleep Awake 🤕 it had such a cool concept and atmosphere, but the gameplay just didn't deliver 💔 I mean, who doesn't love a good synth-rock soundtrack like Gary Numan's though? 😎 And those visuals are straight fire 🔥 but it feels like they're trying to make up for the lack of depth in the game's story and puzzles. It's like, you know when you're playing a game and you just kind of... go through the motions? 🤯 That's Sleep Awake for me. Maybe I'm just not patient enough for a horror game that takes its time to build tension? 😅

😂 I mean, what's up with these horror games, right? They all try to scare us but end up being super predictable! 🤣 Like, I've seen more thrilling experiences at a bingo night 🎲👻. And don't even get me started on the puzzles – rolling carts into breakers? That's not scary, that's just... lazy 😴. But hey, if you're a fan of FMV sequences and psychedelic visions, then Sleep Awake might be the game for you! Just don't say I didn't warn you when it puts you right to sleep 🛋️😂. Gary Numan's cameo is like the cherry on top – it's like they said, "Hey, we need something memorable, let's get Gary Numan!" 👏

I don't get why they even bothered casting Gary Numan in this game 🤔. The whole thing just feels like an afterthought, you know? Like, "Hey, we've got some cool visuals and some decent music, let's just slap our favorite synth-rock icon into the mix and call it a day 😐" Meanwhile, the gameplay is just so boring... I mean, who thought it was a good idea to have enemies spawn on a patrol path that you can easily avoid? 🚫 And don't even get me started on the puzzles - they're like something a 5-year-old would come up with 😒. Overall, I think Sleep Awake is just a bunch of hype for its visuals and some cameos, but overall it's a total snooze fest 😴
