TV tonight: an intense new 999 series about knotty crime cases

Tonight's TV highlights include a gripping new series of 999 that delves into the complex world of knotty crime cases. The show opens with two intense investigations: one in Suffolk where a man fatally stabs a suspected thief outside his house, while another in Hertfordshire where a car belonging to a woman reported for drug dealing is found on fire.

These are no ordinary crimes - nothing is straightforward and the police find themselves unraveling a web of lies, stalking, and deceit. The episode ends with a lead that points to someone under a protection order, setting the stage for what promises to be a thrilling series.

If you're in the mood for something more serious, 24 Hours in Police Custody offers a glimpse into one of the UK's worst serial paedophiles, Carson Grimes. After new accusations surface, officers launch a fresh inquiry and are inundated with tales of previous victims, as well as a troubling discovery of bones near his old home.

Later on, fans of Dark Winds will be happy to know that it's back for its season finale. Navajo cop Joe (Zahn McClarnon) and Gordo (A Martinez) may have just had a moment of reflective calm before the action ratchets up in this 70s-set drama adapted from Tony Hillerman's book series.

Comedy fans can enjoy Live at the Apollo, which features Tom Davis introducing rising star Kae Kurd, alongside Newcastle standup Louise Young. There's also Lucia Keskin's Things You Should Have Done on BBC Three, a deadpan sitcom that just gets funnier with the addition of Bridget Christie as a dodgy therapist.

The night wraps up with another episode of Feral, which was shortlisted at the Edinburgh comedy awards.

๐Ÿ˜’ I mean, what's with all these true crime shows? Back in my day, we didn't need all that drama to keep us on the edge of our seats... or whatever it is people do nowadays ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ. Just give me a good old fashioned Agatha Christie mystery any day out! And don't even get me started on these serial killers... I remember watching my first Sherlock Holmes movie when I was like 10 and that was enough for me ๐Ÿ˜‚. Now it's all about gruesome details and graphic violence... what happened to the Golden Age of detective fiction? ๐Ÿ™„

I'm watching these police dramas and it's like how we used to do in '99 when I'd watch 'Cops' on TV - you know, back then it was all about the thrill of it all... but now it seems so much darker, more realistic? Like, what's with all this serial killer stuff? In my day, if someone did something bad, they'd be caught in no time. Nowadays it's like they're playing a game, you know? And these detectives... always getting in over their heads... reminds me of that one show 'The X-Files' we used to watch with David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson - the way Mulder would unravel conspiracies was just so captivating! ๐Ÿ˜Š

man this shows like 999 sounds so intense ๐Ÿคฏ i mean two investigations in one episode? and that lead on someone under protection order? my heart is racing just thinking about it ๐Ÿ˜… and then there's Dark Winds, I love how they weave together the Navajo culture with the mystery. it's always so inspiring to see stories like that coming from real life. and comedy-wise, i'm down for Live at the Apollo ๐ŸŽค those comedians sound hilarious! anyway, just a heads up, if you're getting ready for bed tonight, just know that tomorrow is gonna be a great day ๐Ÿ˜Š

I'm so excited for this new series of 999 ๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ’ฅ! I've heard it's going to be super gritty and intense - I love how it highlights the complexities of these investigations. And that lead about someone under a protection order? My mind is already racing with possibilities ๐Ÿ˜ฑ. I hope they can bring some justice to the victims' families.

The 24 Hours in Police Custody episode about Carson Grimes sounds really disturbing ๐Ÿคฏ. Serial paedophiles are still shocking to think about, and it's great that the show is shedding light on this issue. I hope it raises awareness and maybe even leads to more convictions ๐Ÿ’ช.

I'm a bit of a fan of 70s dramas, so Dark Winds is definitely piquing my interest ๐Ÿ•ฐ๏ธ. The Navajo cop character sounds fascinating, and I love how the show explores the Native American culture.

Live at the Apollo with Kae Kurd looks like a lot of fun ๐Ÿ˜„! And that episode of Things You Should Have Done on BBC Three with Bridget Christie? Sounds hilarious! I'm definitely going to check it out. Feral's Edinburgh comedy awards win is awesome too ๐ŸŽ‰.

I'm loving this mix of serious crime dramas and lighter comedies to cap off the week ๐Ÿคฏ. But what really got me thinking is how our obsession with true crime stories like 999 and Dark Winds can both fascinate and repel us ๐Ÿ˜ณ. On one hand, it's human nature to be curious about what makes people tick (no pun intended). And on another, are we glorifying or exploiting a darker aspect of humanity? The overlap between entertainment and reality can be messy ๐Ÿ”ฎ.

At the same time, I'm loving that there's room for both gritty investigations and more lighthearted fare like Lucia Keskin's Things You Should Have Done. It feels like our viewing habits are becoming more eclectic and open to all sorts of tastes ๐ŸŽฌ. What do you guys think? Am I reading too much into this or is it just a commentary on our media landscape? ๐Ÿค”

Ugh I'm so over these true crime shows ๐Ÿ™„... don't get me wrong I love a good thriller but sometimes it feels like they're just sensationalizing things to get ratings ๐Ÿ“บ. Like can we focus on something else for once? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ And I'm genuinely curious about the lead in 999, hope it's not too graphic ๐Ÿ’”...

I'm thinking about how we perceive the blurred lines between right and wrong in our society... ๐Ÿค” Like these cases on 999, where nothing seems cut-and-dried. Is it ever really that simple? Maybe we're all just searching for answers to questions nobody's asking. And what does justice even look like when the truth is muddied by lies and deceit? I mean, who are we to judge someone under a protection order? Do we know their story? Are we considering all the complexities of the situation before we condemn them? It's easy to get caught up in our own moral compasses, but what if that's just a reflection of our own biases? ๐Ÿคท

Ugh, can't believe they're still using those old-school format for 999. It's so basic ๐Ÿ™„. They need to upgrade to something more modern and intuitive. And don't even get me started on the "complex world of knotty crime cases" - sounds like a cop-out to me ๐Ÿ˜’. Where's the depth? The nuance? Just more sensationalized drama for clicks ๐Ÿ“บ.

I donโ€™t usually comment but I think 999 sounds super intense ๐Ÿคฏ tonight's lineup looks like it'll be all about the drama and crime - I'm intrigued by that first case where no one seems to know what's going on ๐Ÿ˜• I've seen some episodes of Dark Winds before, love the way they mix mystery with a strong Native American culture vibe ๐Ÿ’ฅ also gotta check out Lucia Keskin's Things You Should Have Done, I've been hearing good things about it ๐Ÿ“บ

can you imagine if these investigators actually found justice for those victims? 999 is always so gripping but it's not just entertainment, it's real people's lives we're watching. and that new series about Carson Grimes is seriously unsettling. i mean, no serial killer should ever be able to hide their dark secrets like that... ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿ’”

I'm intrigued by 999, but I gotta say, I've seen some shows like this before and they always seem to end with a convenient twist ๐Ÿค”. I mean, someone under a protection order is gonna be the key to solving the case? It sounds too easy. And what's up with the way they're handling Carson Grimes' inquiry? I know it's serious business, but can't they do better than just relying on victims coming forward? ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

On the other hand, I'm a fan of Dark Winds and I love how it explores complex issues like stalking and deceit. Zahn McClarnon is such a great actor and he brings so much depth to his character ๐Ÿคฉ. And I'm excited to see Kae Kurd live on Live at the Apollo - I've seen him online and he's hilarious ๐Ÿ˜‚.

The comedy lineup looks pretty solid too, especially with Bridget Christie joining Lucia Keskin in Things You Should Have Done. But I do wish they'd include more UK comedians - sometimes it feels like we get overlooked ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ.

Meh, I don't know why they gotta make crime shows so intense ๐Ÿคฏ. Like, can't we just watch some funny stuff for a change? I'm not really into all that dark stuff. But I guess if you're into that sorta thing, 999 sounds pretty good. And it's only an episode or two in, so maybe it'll get more interesting. On the other hand, I kinda feel bad for the victims and their families ๐Ÿค•. That serial paedophile guy, Carson Grimes, is seriously creepy. Can't believe they're gonna be investigating him again ๐Ÿ˜ฑ. Maybe we can look at this as a way to keep these kinds of people from harming others?

OMG, have you tried those new vegan donuts at the shop downtown? ๐Ÿฉ I'm not even kidding, they're LIFE.CHANGING. I mean, I know this has nothing to do with 999 or whatever, but I just had to share my fave snack with someone... anyway, back to TV shows - I'm more of a sci-fi nerd myself, so I'm still on season 2 of Andor ๐Ÿš€

I'm not sure I buy into this new series 999 being about 'complex world of knotty crime cases'... sounds like sensationalised TV to me ๐Ÿค”. We've seen a lot of similar shows in the past that have been more focused on the thrill of it all rather than actual depth and insight. Still, if they're gonna make it gripping with some leads pointing to someone under a protection order, I'm kinda curious now ๐Ÿ˜Š. And that Dark Winds season finale is definitely looking like something I'll be watching... Navajo cop Joe always has my attention! ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Wow ๐Ÿ˜‚ 24 Hours in Police Custody sounds like it's gonna be super intense. Serial paedophiles are just so disturbing, and I hope it helps to bring some justice to the victims' families ๐Ÿ™ Interesting how they're bringing up new accusations, makes you wonder if there's always more to the story ๐Ÿ’ญ

I've been watching the trailer for 999 and I'm hooked! The way they weave together these complex crimes is like trying to solve a puzzle while the pieces keep shifting. It's so intense! ๐Ÿคฏ I love how it shows the investigators working tirelessly, following leads and questioning suspects. I feel like I'm right there in the investigation room with them.

And Dark Winds? Still one of my faves. There's something about Joe's character that just resonates with me... I think we've all had moments where we felt like giving up on our dreams, but then somehow push through. Anyway, it's always a thrill to see those Navajo detectives in action! ๐Ÿ”

Live at the Apollo is another must-watch for comedy fans! Tom Davis introducing Kae Kurd is literally the highlight of my week. His jokes are so sharp and witty... I'm definitely going to check out more of his work ๐Ÿคฃ.

But you know what's been on my mind lately? The way true crime shows always bring up questions about our justice system. Like, how do we balance punishment with rehabilitation? And what can we do to prevent these crimes from happening in the first place? It's like... food for thought ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

๐Ÿค” I'm telling you, something fishy is going on here... 24 Hours in Police Custody, right? They're basically putting this guy Carson Grimes under a microscope and suddenly new accusations surface? That's some pretty convenient timing if you ask me. Maybe they're trying to stir up drama or distract us from something bigger? And what's with the bones near his old home? You think that's just a coincidence? I don't think so... ๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ‘€

I'm kinda curious how TV shows like 999 & Dark Winds manage to balance drama & truth without sensationalizing crime cases ๐Ÿค”. I mean, these shows can be intense but they also seem to humanize victims & perpetrators, making it hard to separate fact from fiction ๐Ÿ•ฐ๏ธ. It's a thin line to walk, but when done well, it can spark important conversations ๐Ÿ’ฌ. What do you think?
