I'm not sure if this change in strategy is a good idea
... I mean, it's probably better than nothing, but stopping the reviews of all recent cases might lead to some avoidable deaths going unnoticed
. On the other hand, focusing on "focus areas" might help address specific issues that are more pressing, like Indigenous communities being disproportionately affected by DV
.
I'm also a bit worried about the lack of transparency and accountability in decision-making processes
... if experts and survivors aren't properly consulted, how can we expect to improve the system? But at the same time, maybe the current leadership structure is necessary to address some of the systemic issues that have plagued the DV response unit since 2020
.
I guess what's most concerning is the fact that staff wellbeing has been neglected
... if coroners and other staff members are experiencing vicarious trauma, it's only going to get worse. We need to prioritize their safety and support, not just the survivors of DV
.
Umm, I think we need a bigger overhaul of the system
... one that prioritizes women's experiences and listens to their voices. Anything less would be a step in the wrong direction
.
